The Commercial Analyst Training Program at First American Bank is a dynamic, six-month entry-level program designed to launch careers in commercial banking. This immersive program provides a comprehensive introduction to the bank’s commercial operations, with a strong emphasis on credit underwriting and interdepartmental collaboration. Trainees gain valuable exposure to the inner workings of the Commercial Department while developing key professional skills through structured coursework, hands-on experience, and cross-functional team rotations.
Upon successful completion of the program, trainees are placed within a Commercial team, ready to contribute meaningfully to client relationships and financial analysis.
Course Work
Trainees participate in a series of structured training sessions that lay the foundation for a successful career in commercial banking. These sessions include:
- In-depth instruction on credit underwriting principles and practices.
- Training on First American Bank’s internal systems, including core databases, loan operating systems, and document storage platforms.
- Presentations from various departments to understand how each supports the Commercial team.
- Assignments and projects designed to assess communication, analytical thinking, and professionalism.
Hands-On Experiences
The program emphasizes experiential learning through:
- Rotations across different teams within the Commercial Department.
- Shadowing experienced professionals to observe daily operations and customer interactions.
- Supporting commercial customers with basic tasks under supervision.
- Completing real-world projects that simulate the responsibilities of a full-time Commercial Analyst.
Financial Analysis
A core component of the program is developing financial acumen through:
- Spreading and analyzing financial statements, including balance sheets and profit & loss statements.
- Gaining hands-on experience with financial modeling and risk assessment.
- Learning to interpret financial data to support credit decisions and client recommendations.
